The PJ Schafer Memorial Heart Research Grant

John Hopkins Medical Heart Institute The proceeds of the PJ Schafer Memorial Golf Tournament support research at The Johns Hopkins Heart Institute and The Johns Hopkins Ciccarone Center for the Prevention of Heart Disease to fund research into the prevention of sudden cardiac death and premature heart disease. Following the tournament each year a committee of Johns Hopkins cardiologists selects a talented young cardiologist who has recently begun his or her career in one of these areas of cardiovascular research. The 2011 recipient of the PJ Schafer Memorial Research Grant is Dr. Oscar Cingolani. His research is focused at exploring novel cardiac proteins and molecular pathways that play a key role in heart attacks and the transition to heart failure.

Scholarship Awards

Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC) - Catonsville - Each year a man and a woman will be awarded a scholarship in PJ's name to continue their education at CCBC. This scholarship program is administered by the CCC Foundation. For information contact Cathy Birkelien @ 410-285-9935.

Catonsville High School - Each year a scholarship is awarded in PJ's name to to a graduating senior at CHS. This scholarship program is administered by the CHS Scholarship Committee.
